City Council Candidate - Tamra Spade

As a lifelong resident of the Central Valley and current Ripon resident, I am proud to officially announce my candidacy for Ripon City Council in 2020. I am confident that I am the best candidate to serve our community in this role.

I am a proud mother of three, son (32), a daughter (30), and a second daughter (17). My husband Dave and I have called Ripon home for many years and this is where we’ve raised our beautiful daughter Kali. She started at Ripon Elementary School and next year will be celebrating her senior year at Ripon High School.

Education has always been an ongoing pursuit for me. I serve as a part-time faculty member for Notre Dame de Namur University, teaching Principals of Management. This opportunity allows me to leverage my Bachelor of Arts in Communication degree as well as my Masters in Business Administration. Currently, I am pursuing a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership. In addition, I hold two certifications, one in Non-Profit Management and a California certification for Economic Development.

My professional career reflects a wide variety of positions that have enabled me to successfully serve our community and become an effective Council Member — with over five (5) years as the CEO/President of the Ripon Chamber of Commerce, three (3) years working as a representative for District 12’s State Senator and fourteen (14) years of business development.

During my tenure at the Chamber, we created new methods that assisted growing our business community that included new events (Christmas Light Parade and Downtown Brews and Bites), new committees, effective fundraisers, as well as influencing the change of a city ordinance that now allows all downtown restaurants to offer outside seating.

As the former CEO/President of the Ripon Chamber, one of our core values was to keep our residents and business community consistently informed. A new Government Relations and Economic Development Committee was created to serve as a conduit from our business community to our local government. A new 501c3 was also established to support the growth of a new Chamber Foundation. Additionally, the Ripon Youth Leadership Academy was implemented to support junior and senior high school students to gain an effective understanding of business leadership skills.

My commitment to our community and the value I’ve consistently delivered is evident on many levels. The following additional credentials reinforce why I am the best candidate for City Council:

  • Ripon Consolidated Fire District — 2015 to Present, with the last three (3) years serving as Board Secretary.

  • Doctors Hospital of Manteca Governing Board — 2015 to Present

  • Ripon Community Fund Governing Board — 2019 to Present

  • Appointed by the San Joaquin County Supervisors to serve on the Workforce Board representing district 4 — 2014 to present

  • Spring Creek Golf and Country Club — 2016 to 2019

  • Second Harvest Food Bank Governing Board of Directors — 2016 to 2018

  • United Way Woman’s Leadership Council — 2013 to 2014

  • Ripon Rotary Club member — 2014 to 2019

  • Rotary International Foundation Paul Harris recipient

It is important to mention that I am not a politician, nor do I care to be. However, I’m very passionate about improving our quality of life and build Ripon as a community that thrives.

As a results-driven community leader, I am fortunate to have more than 30 years of business and community development experience, that can be put to use for the greater good of our City and residents. I am committed to continue working to help revitalize our local community, improve public safety, and protect the quality of life we have here in our wonderful city.

With your support I know we can build a stronger community where we call home.
