Lathrop Division Fire Chief Running for Ripon Fire District Board of Directors

Larry Madoski has emergency responder and public service in his blood with the history of his grandfather Bob Madoski and his dad Larry -- throwing his hat into the Ripon Fire Department’s upcoming board election.

Larry is currently a division chief with the Lathrop-Manteca Fire Department. His grandfather, Bob, was a previous manager of the Manteca District Ambulance Service and chief of a county fire department in Stockton. Bob was also the pastor of the Brethren Church in Lathrop. His dad Larry was a president of the Manteca Kiwanis Club being elevated to Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis in California and Hawaii.

His mother Kathleen was a member of the Manteca Soroptimist Club in her community service past -- having once worked for the Barnwood Restaurant. She and Larry had two daughters and one son -- Marcus, 13, Madelyn, 15, and Macie 8. Madoski has proven his involvement with his son Marcus as the two of them have been busy restoring an old golf cart in their garage -- just one of his efforts to get his kids away from their video games.

Madelyn has been practicing her flute with her dad who brings his out from high school days and plays along with his oldest daughter.

Both Madelyn and Macie spend hours practicing for their ballet classes. “I have always told my kids to get involved when they can,” he said.

Madoski said his two communities are very different from his work place is in Lathrop and his home in Ripon. “

The two communities are “very different,” he said. Everyone has to be engaged in planning when a community such as Lathrop is growing so rapidly, he said. “Ripon on the other hand wants to stay small.”

“Before planning to build or annex an area to your city, you have to know the necessary emergency response times `and deal with the expected future emergencies. You can't rubber-stamp one community’s plan for growth on another -- it just doesn't work,” he said. “It’s really important to work together as a team and with other members of the fire board and management.”
