Police Respond to Incident at Local Business

On Thursday, June 16, 2022, at approximately 4:43 PM, Ripon Officers responded to a report of a strong-armed robbery at the business located at 341 E. Main St. The initial calls that came into the Dispatch Center reported a theft, and physical assault that had occurred at the location with the suspect, employees, and a vendor still inside the business.

Upon arrival, officers secured the perimeter of the business and were able to have the occupants inside the store secure themselves away from the suspect. Several attempts to communicate with the suspect were unsuccessful. As further information was obtained the suspect was determined to be having a mental health emergency. At approximately 5:26 PM, officers on the scene were able to establish communications with the suspect and take him into protective custody without incident or physical use of force. The store employees and vendor were discovered to have no serious injuries.

The subject is in the process of being transported to a mental health facility at this time. No further information was provided by Ripon Police Department officials.
