The Ripon Rotary Club and Chick-Fil-A are partnering in a high school scholarship and fresh drinking water stations for school students in a fundraising effort in a mid-September “drive-through” outside the Ripon Fire Station.
Dinners will be sold on the 15th and 16th -- Tuesday and Wednesday -- from 6 to 8 p.m. for a donation of $12 for a chicken sandwich, chips, and a cookie. Restaurant owner Micah Payton recently joined the business and opened the Manteca location hailing from New York where he was a practicing attorney.
Payton was curious about the successes he witnessed at the Chick-Fil-A locations on the East Coast and applied for a job with the firm at $11 an hour before going after his own franchise which located in the Central Valley city of Manteca.
The drive-thru motorists will be directed down Norse Avenue by the rear of the fire station and exiting on Stockton Avenue in the downtown section of Ripon.
Moving on to Colorado before settling in Ripon. he said he left the legal profession and went to work for the popular fast-food chicken operation to see first hand just what it was like and appreciated the Christian influence in the business. His wife noted that he had left a white-collar job for a blue-collar challenge.
Tickets will be available from any Ripon Rotary member or by calling 209-612-2947.
