The fatal victim of a 5 a.m. Sunday morning fire on Linda Avenue, four blocks south of Main Street, has been identified by the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office as 29-year-old Samuel Staten of Ripon who reportedly died in an explosion and fire in a travel trailer a week ago that had been parked in his driveway.
Neighbors had reported seeing a plum of flames they saw reaching skyward immediately following what they first thought was a gunshot appearing to be some form of spontaneous combustion. The trailer had been parked at the north side of the home with the flames charring the outside wall and catching a portion of the roof on fire and encroaching into
the garage.
Staten could not be immediately identified by firefighters or police and had to be confirmed through the coroner’s investigation. Little remained of the travel trailer but the frame, the trailer hitch, and its wheels.
Staten worked for Burns Trucking of Ripon where he had been employed for the last two years.
The cause of the fire is under further investigation, according to Officer Danny Sauer of the Ripon Police Department.
